Progress shots 28.12.17

Today I downloaded a 7 day trial of InDesign on my computer to finish my ancillary products. I uploaded the photoshopped image I completed onto a document and edited the advert with all the conventions of a usual Channel 4 advert.

I found that this version of InDesign does not have my housestyle font, so I left the areas blank where the typing needs to be and I will edit this in on the InDesign version I was using previously.

Progress shots 21.12.17

Today I found out how to adjust the pixels on my first draft of my edited advert.
I decided that the pixels needed to be more separated, and that the presenters head was a little too stretched. I found that I could cut squares like pixels out of the original picture and add them in, so I did this.
This is my finished product. I am going to edit in the Channel 4 logo and documentary name in InDesign.

Progress shots: 20.12.17

Today I downloaded a trial of the 2018 version of Photoshop as I am following a tutorial for my advert and the version I was working with did not allow me to use the same functions. I followed the instructions on the tutorial to try and create a pixelated effect. This is the tutorial I used:

I uploaded my image to Photoshop and started editing the image following the video. I had a few issues with isolating the image, but I tried to get round this problem.

I then discovered that I had no square preset brushes in this trial, so I followed a link to download brushes of the Adobe website.

This was the end result, but due to the placing I am not very happy with it. I am going to start again, to try and get the pixels a little further out.

Progress shots 18.12.17

Due to further comments from audience feedback, I decided to change the layout and overall look of my double page spread. So far, I have changed the heading to fit more to the topic. I downloaded a font and then changed each letter of the words to a different colour based on a picture of the newest iPhone to anchor the meaning of brand new digital technology. I did not change the colour of the word over as it makes the main part of the title stand out.

I used the dropper tool to select the colours from the phone background alternatively and applied them to each letter of the title.
I also changed the masthead from the name of the documentary to 'Technology takes over' to make it more catchy and aesthetically pleasing.

This is what I have completed so far on my double page spread:
I am following inspiration from this magazine article:

I realised that I needed to create a logo for my TV magazine to put at the top or bottom of the page, so I downloaded a font to suit a TV magazine and in photoshop changed the colours of the fun and made the letters have a drop shadow. I then put 'selection' over 'TV' so that the words were grouped together, and so that readers could recognise the iconic TV magazine logo. Most TV magazines have similar logos. I researched to find similarities and differences in the logos.
They are all red with ether white or black among the red colour, and quite simple bold fonts. I made sure that I followed the conventions of these logos, and created mine with them in mind.

Audience research: feedback on my TV listings double page spread.

I got my double page spread printed off so that I could see if the article and the images around it were in proportion to each other, as well as to the page size. I got some feedback to see what I could improve on.

I asked a few people what I could do to improve my double page spread, and these were the comments. I am going to implement these changes on it.

Today I finished re-editing my footage into my documentary. I still need to add in a link between the last interview and the presenter shot, plus another interview on a platform the school uses to communicate with students on.

Progress shots: 8.12.17

Today I continued working on my evaluation questions. I also emailed the creator of the background music I want to use in my documentary to ask for permission to use their music.

Today I am finishing up my double page spread, so I changed all the text on it to my new house style font to create a sense of branding. I also realised that most other TV listings magazines have the name  of the magazine next to the page numbers, so I am creating a name to put next to the page numbers.

Here is a rush of my documentary so far:

I also took another image for my newspaper advert, as I was not happy with the previous one. I also took advice from my audience feedback, in which a few people suggested changing the main image to a picture where the audience can see the phone, and where the person is using a direct mode of address. I also edited the photo in Photoshop with a brush of varying sizes in a white colour to make the background all the same colour. I did this to make the text messages and the date and time of the documentary easier to see and more prevalent. I will finish editing the background colour and then edit on the rest of the advert onto it.

Progress shots: 6.12.17

Today I re-edited the beginning in again but I have realised that I need to record the narration again. I added in an interview with an ICT specialist to talk about an app that the school have started to use to communicate with students and parents on. I also changed all the text in my documentary to the font I am now using across my three products.

Progress shots 5.12.17

Today I had to reimport my footage and re-edit it into my documentary, due to iMovie not working last time I was editing and my footage was lost. I have re-edited almost half of it. I am going to conduct my last few interviews in the next few days and edit them in after.

Progress shots 4.12.17

Today I received more feedback on my documentary. From this, I decided to change my font across my three products, to a font that is famously the font used on twitter, which will help anchor my topic of technology and be easily recognisable by twitter users. I added in shots of my apple watch, as getting texts on it help show distractions in school. I will be using this as a cutaway in another interview with a student. I am going to get a couple more interviews with teachers.

Today I added in the beginning presenter shot and a couple of establishing shots, and I found some different music to add in.

Audience research: feedback for my documentary and my ancillary products

I wanted to make sure my colour palette is obvious to give a sense of branding and a housestyle across my products. Everyone that received this form replied that my colour palette is obvious, which enforces my branding of my products.
I asked my audience feedback group about my sound and picture quality, and almost all of the answers were that my quality was fine. Some answered that it was uneven so I am editing the volume on my documentary to make it more even.

In my audience feedback, I received comments noting that it would be worth not repeating interviewees' names as they have already appeared on the screen. I then deleted any repeated names as this made sense. I also had a comment that said I should shorten the statistics so only the important information comes up on the screen, so I did it.
